The BBC has revealed the final design of its single board computing digital device today. The device known as the Micro: bit will be available for every UK secondary school child as of this September as part of the BBCs Make it Digital flagship programme. The groundbreaking initiative is set to not only inspire digital creativity but also develop a new generation of tech pioneers, the BBC website says. The initiative, which is expected to supply an excess of one million devices, is aiming to tackle the issue of tech literacy in a bid to assure the future of industry in Britain. The Micro: bit computer will fit in with the UKs newly digitized curriculum acting as an introduction to computer science. The microcomputer, which is currently being touted as a market competitor and rival to the tech worlds favorite mini computer, the Raspberry Pie, will be kept open source, meaning the hardware will be available for modification. BBC will be joining forces with massive several companies including Microsoft and Samsung, forming a non-profit organization around Micro: bit, as well as a number of education start-ups like CodeClub and Decoded, in a effort to provide educational support for the digital device. Though the BBC have only pledged a one year supply of the free computing device, it looks likely that this initiative will be a defining moment in digital creativity for generations to come.
